LWCW: Privacy & data

LWCW helps children practise spelling, with a parent space for managing words and reviewing work. Children do not need an account, email address or date of birth. There are no adverts, purchases, social features or advertising trackers in this version.

The app saves list names, words, optional letter groups, an optional child name and school year, and practice and Test Me results. Results include dates, words, letter-block answers, assessments and handwriting for finished words. These records support practice and the practice journal.

These records are stored in the app on your device, or in browser storage when you use the web version. LWCW has no server that receives these records and no account-based syncing. A nickname is enough; you can leave the child name and school year blank.

Anyone who can use the device can see the child's spelling lists. Lists and the practice journal can be opened without a grown-up check. Actions that open email or external websites require a grown-up check; it is not a password, proof of age or parental consent for data collection.

Scanning is optional. You can type words instead. When a parent takes or selects a photo, text recognition processes the image on the device. The parent reviews the recognised words before adding them to a list. The source photo is not added to the practice journal. The image picker can leave temporary copies in the app cache, which the operating system manages; original photos remain in your photo library.

On iPhone and iPad, scanning uses Apple Vision. On Android, it uses Google ML Kit through Google Play services. ML Kit does not send the scanned image or recognised text to Google, but it can download models and send technical metrics to Google. These include device and app information, identifiers, performance and error information, and details such as image size and processing events. Google uses these for diagnostics, usage analytics and maintaining its services.

On the web, scanning runs in your browser. Recognition files are downloaded from the same site as the app; the app does not upload the photo for recognition.

LWCW passes the word to your device or browser's text-to-speech service. The selected system voice and its provider determine whether speech uses an internet connection. LWCW does not record your child's voice or use the microphone.

A parent can save a picture from the practice journal to Photos, or download it in a browser. The picture can include the child name if one was entered. Photos, downloads, device backups and any cloud photo syncing are controlled by your device settings and those services, separately from LWCW.

Camera access is used to take a photo of a word list. The photo picker lets you choose an existing image. Permission to save to Photos is requested when needed for a journal export. You can decline these permissions and still type lists and practise. Change permissions later in your device settings.

Lists and journal entries are kept until you delete the associated spelling list or remove the app's data. In Parent settings, open a list and choose Delete spelling list, then confirm Delete list. This removes that list and its practice journal. If a handwriting file cannot be removed immediately, the app queues another attempt when it next opens.

Editing a list or removing a word does not erase past journal entries, which keep a snapshot of the finished work. To remove that history too, delete the list. Delete each list to clear all visible lists and journals. There is no account to delete.

Deleting data inside LWCW does not delete exported pictures, original photos or copies in device backups. Delete those separately using the relevant device or service controls. Backups may restore earlier app data. Clearing browser storage removes the web app's local records; uninstalling or deleting native app data can remove local work, so export any pictures you want to keep first.

The publisher cannot retrieve or remotely delete lists stored only on your device. Use the controls above to view, save or delete that work. If you contact support, your email provider and the support mailbox handle the information you choose to send.

Messages sent to hello@tobacreative.com are handled directly by Toba Creative and are not shared with third parties. We keep support messages only as long as needed to help you, then delete them. You can ask us to access, correct or delete any personal information you've sent us by emailing the same address.

This privacy notice is hosted on the Toba Creative website. The website does not use cookies, tracking scripts or third-party advertising on this page. Our web host may retain standard connection logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and reliability, separate from anything stored by LWCW itself.
